Review: Bloody Benders

Riot Grrrl is an underground feminist punk movement that originated in the early 1990s in Washington state (particularly Olympia) and the greater Pacific Northwest. It also had origins in Washington, D.C. Primary bands associated with the movement include Bikini Kill,
Bratmobile, L7 and Sleater Kinney just to name a few.

In Mexico City in 2011 an all-female punk rock band called Bloody Benders
hit the stage for the first time, with the DIY attitude & filled the stage with that old school Riot Grrrl energy, they immediately won their own place in the local punk rock scene.

Bloody Benders mixes different types of music, always based on punk rock, their music has been catalogued as horror punk because of their love for horror movies embodied in their lyrics & their shows with performance and visual elements.

Their debut album “Sex, Blood and Rock & Roll” (2014), produced by Rene D’la Muerte
singer of the Canadian band The Brains, is a 10 track album full of rage, horror, punk, metal, ska and a kick ass attitude!

Last year Taty Bloody Batty (vocals), Bibian Blue (bass), Foamy Pocket (Guitar/Vocals) &
Angy Bender (drums) released their second album called “Lost Girls”, and toured a lot of places all around Mexico, as in Los Angeles California at the PUNK INVASION2K17 and the Alegre Fest in Medellin, Colombia.

This is definitely a band you should give a listen, if you are looking for something new & fresh. Also if you are into the riot grrrl bands, you should check this All-Female quartet!
